Sourjyo's World

Something I wrote just over 4 years back. Brings back a lot of wonderful memories.

The Sun drowns itself in the murkiness of space,
The Earth turns away to hide its face.
The races it breeds at such great pace,
Things have started going out of phase.

Before you know it, mothers gone,
You didn't do the right, you did the wrong.
Now do you realize it won't be long,
She was the one who could sing this song.

How do I know what life truly is?
I'm singing songs of eternal bliss.
You walk along, strain to hear the hum..
But its gone.. No it won't come.

The bull and the bear are sold in the market,
The deafening clutter, the unbelievable racket,
Running fast in this make believe world,
Far away from Nature's man.

We have become slaves to ourselves,
We have become slaves to Man,
we have pricked ourselves in our spines..
We didn't know where to draw the line.

How do I know what life truly is?
I'm singing songs of eternal bliss.
You walk along, strain to hear the hum..
But its gone.. No it won't come.

Masti ki 'Paathshala' – The Review that wasn’t

The Vigilidiot Sahil Rizwan does it. The GreatBong Arnab Ray does it. Paan-waalas all over India do it. So why not me?

Yes. I will be writing a movie review. Now take it and go.

On the 17th, Baba (Lavneesh for the uninitiated) decided to take the Delhi Chapter of IIMSPGP09 (TomBua, CR-ni, Charra, Harsha, BoloManav, Dood, Bagla, TurnOver and me) out for a movie at Spice World in Noida, it being his birthday. So doing something that I don’t even do for work, I woke up at 7:45 and travelled all the way to Noida from Lajpat Nagar. To watch ‘Clash of the Titans’. Or so I thought.

I reach there and find out that they have already purchased the tickets. To Paathshala.

A small disclaimer: I don’t really like Hindi movies. So the review might be biased.

The movie starts with a scene introducing Shahid-anna as an English teacher who takes up the job of a teacher at SVM. Patekar-Nana plays the part of the typical good-guy-who-looks-bad-but-turns-out-to-be-good-by-the-end-when-you-can-see-through-the-plot-so-easily-it-makes-you-feel-like-puking-as-if-anorexia-was-your-dope. Shahid’s acting is worse. And about the extras, don’t even ask.

How to make a movie?

2 Movies to abstract plots out of (TZP and 3I)

1 Good Actor (Shahid Kapur)

1 Washed-up Actor (Nana Patekar)

1 Cute Actress (Ayesha Takia)

2 Cute but seriously challenged actresses (oh if only I could call them actresses … Prreti kopikar and Shraddha Arya)

Young kids pretending to act (add to taste)

1 Impaired script writer

1 Seriously Impaired director

Take all of the above. Pour them in boiling oil. Let them burn to death. Scrape off the dead skin. Present according taste. Put in a beautiful bowl.

Serve with celery on the side.

I just realized I suck at writing movie reviews.

Sahil and Arnab have talent. The paan-waals definitely have talent. I give up. Just like in the movie hall. I can’t do this anymore. Go watch the movie. It will give you a new perspective on life.

We wasted 80 bucks per head. The Mumbai chapter wasted 170 per head.

How that one for you?

Do You Realise?

This is the worst possible mood that I can be in to write a post.

Hence I will just quote song lyrics.

I apologize for the poor quality of this post. But this is something I must get out.

The following song is by the Flaming Lips.

Do You Realise?
Flaming Lips

Do You Realize - that you have the most beautiful face
Do You Realize - we're floating in space -
Do You Realize - that happiness makes you cry
Do You Realize - that everyone you know someday will die

And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know
You realize that life goes fast
It's hard to make the good things last
You realize the sun don'-go down
It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

Do You Realize ?
Do You Realize - that everyone you know
Someday will die -

And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know
You realize that life goes fast
It's hard to make the good things last
You realize the sun don'-go down
It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round

Do You Realize - that you have the most beautiful face
Do You Realize.

This song has been my support over the last 4 years of my life. This song means something special to me.

Give it a listen. Maybe it'll mean something to you someday. My guesses are it will.

My response to Sagarika Ghose's blog on the 3 Idiots

The following is a response I posted on the blog.

They were kind enough to not put it on their blog. Insecurity is really funny. So I put it here instead

I am thoroughly disappointed with this article. Not that I am someone who's appreciation would matter to you.

You, apart from having taken the entire movie out of context, have failed in your argument to put forward something that is comprehensible to the general public.

With a background like the one you have, one would have thought you would be more wary about the situation Education in India is in. Above and beyond this, it is very nonchalant of you to comment on the state of engineering institutes without having actually studied in one yourself.

I understand the entire freedom of speech argument you may have, saying that you have the right to write whatever you want.

But hold on. Wait just a minute. This is a national forum. On a nationally renowned website. Of a nationally renowned news agency. Having posted here, you should be open to criticism for the nation. And thankfully, the nation has criticized this article. A lot. A lot less than it deserves, but still a healthy start nonetheless.

The education system is in shambles. If not at the time you completed your education, but now at least. The core focus of education is so skewed that it makes one think that success in exams determines knowledge. And that this knowledge then determines wellness of life. The proponents of the educational system have managed to turn it into a money game, where the focus is now on getting placements, irrespective of the education of the individual or the problems plaguing our system.

I could go on and on, but that is not the point of this post. You have been extremely myopic in your views (or the expression of them at least), and you should know that.

A Song.

This song.. is a song for you

Hope is all I have.

Because I don't have you.

I wait. I wait. I wait for you.

I know I can't sing,

thats why I read out your song for you.

You don't care. Why should you?

Cause the truth is, I don't know what I want to do.

How can I tell you how I feel about you?

I can't.

I don't know.

How much I care about you.

I know it's a bit weird, but what can I do?

Just wait and wait.

oh yeah.And wait.

And maybe wait a little bit longer.

Try and act a little bit stronger.

I know its boring, but what else can I do.

I may be out of tune, but its how I feel about you.

Yeah, I know. Sad.

I know I'm crazy. I know you're not.

Your radiant eyes proves too strong an allure.

The moonlight rushes down your hair, like a river flowing untamed, wild,

Careless and carefree, at the same time.

As if just for me.

I don't wanna quote Elton John.

But this is your song.

Tides ebb and flow. So do my feelings for you.

All that you are, is a thousand times enough for me.

Poems don't do justice to you.

Your eyes.

My heart skips a beat or two.

My lips sing out of tune for you.

But what do I do??

I'd give up a lot for you.

I'm scared.

I know I am.

And I'm not scared.

Of admitting that I'm scared.

I don't know what I want.

I don't know what you want.

I try to gather up some courage.

To tell you how I feel.

Something about you.

Makes me want to wake up early every morning.

Something about you.

Makes me do a little dance with my two left feet.

Something about you.

Keeps me alive in this mess.

Something about you.

Is something I need.

My feet skip a beat or two.

Now i should leave.

With an unburdened soul.

Sleep well, Good Night.

A Mother's KISS and Assembly Languages

In class today, a group was presenting on the topic "VBA and Macros"

VBA and Macros?

Ya. VBA and Macros.

Anyways, as any Computer Science or IT guy will tell you, High level languages are converted to Intermediate Languages, which are then converted into Assembly Language and then finally into machine language.

For example, the statement "Hello World" would be written like printf("Hello World"); in C++.

It would look something like pop ax, push bx , shift ah in Assembly Language

And then it would look like 01110001001011110001001001001010100100101111101001 in machine language.

But this is the only language a machine understands. And apart from a very VERY few, we don't understand it.

Back to today.

My friend Harsh said:

"Imagine a baby is crying. If the mother comes and says, 'Baby, Don't cry, Don't cry, your crying is hurting me and I love you a lot, so taking that into consideration, please don't cry', the baby will not stop crying. However, if the mother holds the baby close to her heart, a lot more is understood by the baby because the mothers hug, warmth, and probably a kiss is something the baby understands.

"Now imagine the baby is a computer. For it to understand what you want, you should be able to communicate with it on a level it understands. Hence, your high level language should be converted into machine language"

Beautiful. This process had been explained at least 50 times to me before in my life. By M.techs, Phds and multiple Doctorates and post doctorates and what not. But no one, NO ONE ever explained it to me like that. NO ONE.

Readers of my last post will know I am a critic of the education system. This is one more reason why. We spend so much time in complexities that we refuse to accept simplicity.

Simplicity. KISS. Keep It Simple Stupid.

Why do we go past this always? Is it something to be proud of when we intentionally confuse people by trying to show off our intelligence? Would it not serve everyone better if we, instead of confusing, actually tried to make people understand? Use of jargons, complexities and technical terms is good when you want to create a separate hierarchy in society which you find yourself fit to be in, along with a group of 'elite' people you would like to be associated with. But is that good?

Look at the bigger picture guys. Just because you're on the higher side of the divide does not mean you have to extend it. I'm not asking you to surrender all your wealth. Wealth is not the only type of social divide. To satisfy our egos, we want to be 'a class apart'. We want to be at 'a higher level'.

Enough with our egos. Don't get rid of your wealth, don't get rid of your pride, don't get rid of your sense of justice, but PLEASE try to get rid of the negative aspects of your ego.

Do not divide society into classes. We will not be able to survive.
